DIXIE CHICKS' GRAMMY HAUL DOESN'T IMPRESS COUNTRY RADIO

LATEST: Despite being the big winners at Sunday's (11FEB07) Grammy Awards, country trio the DIXIE CHICKS are still facing an uphill struggle to get their songs played on US radio stations. The group claimed five big prizes at the ceremony, including Album of The Year, Record of The Year and Song of The Year. Just four years after the trio was ostracised for making anti-President GEORGE W. BUSH comments onstage during a London concert, they were celebrated for hit song NOT READY TO MAKE NICE and album TAKING THE LONG WAY. However, JIM JACOBS, owner of WTDR-FM, a country radio station in Talladega, Alabama, insists industry accolades will not erase the past. He warns, "Most country stations aren't playing the Chicks, and they aren't going to start now." TONY LAMA, programme director for KXNP in North Platte, Nebraska, adds the clutch of awards will fail to pacify disillusioned fans. He says, "I think (the listeners) are outraged. This is rural, conservative America. They are just disgusted." As well as Album, Record and Song of The Year, the Dixie Chicks also won Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best Country Album.
