DIVINE WAS ON THE VERGE OF TV HISTORY WHEN HE DIED
Larger-than-life movie icon DIVINE was a day away from making US TV history when he died from a heart attack in 1988.
The actor/singer, real name HARRIS MILSTEAD, was set to become primetime TV's first gay character on the day he passed away.
Friend and mentor JOHN WATERS, who cast Divine in films like HAIRSPRAY and PINK FLAMINGOS, reveals, "The last day of Divine's life - a week after Hairspray opened - he was set to play on (beloved sitcom) MARRIED WITH CHILDREN at the height of his career.
"He was (going to be) the first gay male character, a gay uncle, which could have been hugely successful at the time."
