DIRECTOR WRIGHT RESENTED THE END OF THE AFFAIR

Director JOE WRIGHT has slammed NEIL JORDAN for his adaptation of THE END OF THE AFFAIR. The 35-year-old director "resented" the filmmaker for his 1999 adaptation of Graham Greene's novel - as he believes Jordan destroyed the original text. He says, "It was a fantastic film, and very faithful to the novel up to a certain point and then they took a complete left turn and I really resented them for it." And Pride and Prejudice director Wright insists he took a careful approach to his big-screen adaptation of Ian MCEwan's novel Atonement. He adds, "My policy when adapting a book is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Perhaps even more importantly you have to be faithful to the atmosphere of the book - the feeling you get when you put the book down and think about it."
