DIRECTOR GARCIA SCOOPS HISPANIC AWARDS
Actor-turned-director ANDY GARCIA has been awarded two Imagen Awards at a Los Angeles ceremony to honour the best in Hispanic cinema and television. The star won Best Director and Best film for THE LOST CITY, his directorial debut about a wealthy Cuban family during FIDEL CASTRO's rise to power. Other awards included ANTONIO BANDERAS' Best Actor honour for ballroom movie TAKE THE LEAD, and AMERICA FERRERA as Best Actress for her part in movie THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING PANTS. Elsewhere, JIMMY SMITS' role as a Latino presidential hopeful helped THE WEST WING scoop the Best Primetime TV series. The ceremony took place on Friday (18AUG06).
