DILLON PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO SPEEDING OFFENCE

Hollywood actor MATT DILLON has pleaded not guilty to speeding charges relating to his arrest in Vermont last month (Dec08).
The Crash star was pulled over by state troopers after he was allegedly recorded travelling at a speed of 106 miles per hour (171 kilometres per hour) on Interstate 91 in Newbury, Vermont on 30 December (08).
Dillon's lawyer, Mark Kaplan, appeared at the Vermont court on Wednesday (21Jan09) and entered the not guilty plea on the actor's behalf.
He also told court officials he hoped the case could be resolved without the need for a trial.
The 44-year-old was charged with careless and negligent operation for driving more than 30 miles per hour (48 kilometres per hour) above the 65 miles per hour (104 kilometres per hour) speed limit.
If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 (GBP689) fine.
