DID MEDIA WRITE CLINTON OUT OF RACE?
A report by the Project for Excellence in Journalism has documented that during the last two months of the Democratic primary campaign in April and May, the television networks devoted more time to speculation about when Hillary Clinton would call it quits than about the candidates' positions on Iraq, the mounting price of gasoline, home foreclosures or the economy. Referring to the study, former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw told the Associated Press that it was "inappropriate" for journalists "to try to cut the process short. ... There was an awful lot of commentary disguised as reporting that gave the impression that people were trying to shove her out of the race." Apparently referring to the campaign coverage by the cable news networks, Brokaw blamed the decision to focus on Clinton's possible exit on the availability of "too much time and too little imagination."

I agree with Tom Brokaw; yes, the certainly highly contributed to writing Hillary
out of the race. I don't know which I am most dissapointed in: The superdelegates
and officials that influenced the race and pushed for Hillary to concede rather than
waiting until all states voted. OR, the media that gave her opponent a free pass from
beginning to end and continually pushed for Hillary to concede. There wasn't a conspiracy,
it was all out in the open, the shameful way she was treated. She won millions of
voters and should have been treated with respect as was her opponent. If she had,
I believe there would have been a different outcome.
I believe that the media did write Clinton out of the race. When it first began,
I kept looking for news of Hillary because I wanted her to be the nominee. There
was hardly any news of her....ever! When it started to become heated, I found that
almost every pundit had negative comments to make. I kept changing the channels. There
are a few opinionated pundits that I won't ever listen to again. It seemed to make
more sense to them to bash Clinton rather than what was good for the country. Maybe,
the ratings were better if they bashed....who knows? I also believe that the middle-aged
male in them couldn't bear the thought of a woman in a higher position. When my husband
and his co-workers found themselves with a brand new woman manager they all but turned
themselves inside-out with hatred. It went on for months. These were supposed to be
educated men too.
