DIANA FONDLY REMEMBERED AT WEMBLEY CONCERT

A host of artistes from music, theatre, comedy and television performed at Wembley in tribute to Princess Diana.

Over 63,000 people, including celebrities such as David Beckham, were in attendance at the charity event which marked what would have been her 46th birthday.

Princes William and Harry addressed the crowd twice during the event saying that the show was the "most perfect way of remembering" their mother.

William said: "This evening is about all that our mother loved in life - her music, her dance, her charities and her family and friends."

Sir Elton John, 60, opened the concert with his version of Your Song performed against a backdrop of a famous picture of Diana taken by Mario Testino.

Duran Duran, one of Diana's favourite bands, were up next and they rocked the crowd with an upbeat set of songs, including Wild Boys and one of Diana's favourites, Rio.

The evening continued with performances from stars, young and old, singing pop, rap as well as classics.

Tributes to Diana were also shown during the concert with former heads of state, Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair and Bill Clinton, speaking about their memories of the princess.

Patients benefiting from the trusts sponsored by Diana also reminisced about meeting her and the impact her charity work had on them.

Performances from Swan Lake and a medley of hits from renowned composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber reflected Diana's varying interests and Ricky Gervais also entertained the crowd with a routine that included song, dance and stand up comedy.

Status Quo, Bryan Ferry, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Orson, Lily Allen, Pharrell Williams, Take That, Sir Tom Jones and P Diddy also performed at the event which ended with clips of home videos of Diana's childhood.

The event was broadcast to 140 countries, with ticket sales going to charities supported by the princess.
