DIABETES DIAGNOSIS SENT MOORE ON DONUT BINGE

Veteran actress MARY TYLER MOORE was so stunned when she was diagnosed with diabetes, she risked her health by binging on a dozen donuts.
The 72-year-old has long suffered with type 1 diabetes - a rare form of the metabolic syndrome.
After her 1969 diagnosis, Moore was instructed by doctors to immediately change her diet and reduce her sugar intake to avoid its life-threatening effects.
But the actress was in such shock she blatantly ignored medical advice and embarked on a deadly hunt for a sugar high.
She says, "After cleaning the house of anything that was strong in carbohydrates, sugar especially, I then, in an act of absolute defiance, got in the car, drove to the market, grabbed a box of a dozen donuts, put them in the seat beside me and drove around Beverly Hills eating one donut after another... I felt pretty bad."
