DENCH MISSED OSCARS FOR KNEE OP
Film and theatre legend DAME JUDI DENCH missed the Oscars last week (25FEB07) because she was undergoing surgery on her knee.
The 72-year-old actress was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance of BARBARA COVETT in NOTES ON A SCANDAL, but lost out to fellow Brit DAME HELEN MIRREN.
Notes On A Scandal director RICHARD EYRE explains, "(I think) having a properly functioning knee is much better than having an Oscar."
