DE CADENET REVEALS PREGNANCY NIGHTMARE

THE STROKES guitarist NICK VALENSI feared for his wife's health when pregnancy saw her develop uncomfortable complications. The rocker and his British socialite spouse AMANDA DE CADENET welcomed twins in October (06) but she reveals the lead-up to their birth was extremely painful. She recalls, "I hoped it would get better, but it went from bad to worse. I developed fluid retention so my arms and feet swelled really badly. I had carpal tunnel syndrome and couldn't feel my hands from the elbow down. "Towards the end I was so huge that I almost had to be rolled out of bed. I didn't see my feet for months. I couldn't sleep any my whole body itched. By the end I could only sleep standing up in the shallow end of the swimming pool, because water alleviated the weight of the babies. "I'd put a towel on the poolside and just put my head down."
