DAVIS WINS $133,000 IN DAMAGES
LATEST: Actress JUDY DAVIS has been awarded $133,000 (GBP66,500) in her high profile defamation case.
The Australian native, best known for her role in 1984's A Passage To India, won a libel lawsuit against Australian newspaper the Sydney Daily Telegraph after its reporters allegedly depicted the star as a child-hater.
Supreme Court judge Peter MCClellan said the newspaper "seriously misrepresented" Davis by describing her objection to new floodlights at a sporting park near her Sydney waterfront home as unreasonable.
He added: "The accusations that she was unreasonable and selfish and heartless with respect to young children inevitably caused her great anguish."
