DAVIS SUES 'COPYCAT' CHARITY

Hollywood star GEENA DAVIS is taking legal action against two Minnesota residents for allegedly stealing her idea for a charitable foundation and promoting it as their own. The Long Kiss Goodnight actress, who filed her lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (27Aug07), claims she had the idea for the See Jane project, which seeks to increase the number of female role models in children's movies and TV, in 2004. Davis raised nearly $750,000 (GBP375,000) for the charity, but claims Joseph Nelly and Nancy Gruver, who signed up as See Jane sponsors, later told her they owned the organisation. The suit also accuses Kelly and Gruver of using the actress' name and likeness to promote their own charity Dads + Daughters. Davis is seeking an unspecified amount in compensatory and punitive damages.
