DAVID BOWIE RUBBISHES ZIGGY STARDUST RUMOURS
David Bowie has denied press speculation that he is planning to revive his Ziggy Stardust alter ego at an upcoming music festival.
It had been claimed the rock legend would resurrect the outlandish character at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival in California this summer.
However, the 62-year-old's website has dismissed the reports as "poppycock".
"The story goes that David Bowie was in talks to perform his Ziggy Stardust album at the festival this year, the rumour really took hold and the 'news' was reported online around the globe and in the English press," a statement on Davidbowie.com read.
"I'm sure the majority of you saw this tale for what it was anyway: poppycock! However, we feel duty-bound to deny this particular story here too, lest members [of the website] be fleeced of their hard-earned."
The statement also added that the Life on Mars star does not have a Twitter account, after a comment was left in his name on the blogging site which purported Bowie was working on new material.
He has been in semi-retirement since his 2004 world tour was curtailed after a health scare, but sang backing vocals on Scarlett Johansson's debut album last year.
