DARK KNIGHT STAR'S LAWYERS ISSUE STATEMENT OVER ARREST

Christian Bale's legal team have released a statement responding to reports of an alleged assault.

The star of The Dark Knight was arrested over allegations of assault after attending a central London police station by appointment on Tuesday.

Reports had claimed Bale lashed out at his mother and sister in his suite at the Dorchester hotel in London on Sunday.

A statement released from his legal team confirms that he attended a police station on a voluntary basis over the allegations made by his mother and sister.

"Mr Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police," the statement added.

"At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale."

The actor was in the capital for the European premiere of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight, in Leicester Square on Monday night.

Having earned $155.3 million (£77.7 million) in its first three days on release, the Batman Begins sequel has cemented the biggest opening weekend in film history.

The Dark Knight is released on July 24th.
