DANISH POET CHRISTENSEN DIES
Danish poet INGER CHRISTENSEN has died, aged 73.
Christensen died on 2 January (09) at her home in Copenhagen, Denmark after a short illness, according to Susanna Nied, the American translator of her poetry.
She was the recipient of international awards including the Nordic Authors' Prize, commonly known as the Little Nobel, in 1994, and was regularly mentioned as a contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Perhaps her most noted works include three volumes of poetry entitled it, alphabet and Butterfly Valley: A Requiem, which have recently been published in the U.S.
Christensen also wrote essays, short stories, novels, children's books and stage and radio plays long after beginning her literary career with two collections of poems, Light and Grass, published in Denmark in the early 1960s.
She is survived by a son, Peter Borum of Copenhagen, and one grandchild.
