DANES LEFT SHOCKED BY GOLDEN GIRL SURPRISE

Actress CLAIRE DANES was left stunned during a U.S. TV interview on Thursday (02Aug07) when the star of her favourite sitcom came to greet her after the actress gushed about the show she loves. The Shopgirl star started cooing about her fondness for The Golden Girls during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and was left temporarily speechless as the sitcom's star, Betty White, appeared before her. Danes was telling host Leno she constantly watches re-runs of the beloved show, which ran from 1985 to 1992, when the surprise took place. She said, "I like TV a lot. I'm a big fan of The Golden Girls. I watch it avidly, I'm a big follower. I went (in disguise) as a Golden Girl to Halloween one year." Leno then asked Danes if she had ever met White, to which the actress replied, "No, I don't know if I would be able to breathe or speak. I love that show." At that point, 85-year-old White appeared from backstage and presented a shocked Danes with a DVD boxset of seasons one and two of The Golden Girls. Danes told White, "That is the most thrilling thing I think I've ever experienced."
