DAHL'S NEW NOVEL INSPIRED BY TUMULTUOUS UPBRINGING

Model SOPHIE DAHL used her manic upbringing to inspire her new novel PLAYING WITH THE GROWN-UPS. The 30-year-old's mother Tessa famously struggled with depression and an addiction to drugs and alcohol - and Sophie acknowledges there are similarities between the book and her life. She says, "I've taken some of my mother's essence, but it's mixed up with bits of other people I've met. I'm a firm believer in writing about what you know; every novelist refines their work through the prism of their own lives. "There's no burning mystery here that I'm trying to unravel. I've already dealt with that in therapy."
