CRUISE HITS BACK IN SCIENTOLOGY BOOK ROW
TOM CRUISE and leading retail website Amazon have blasted claims the actor was behind a decision to stop selling a controversial book about the Church of Scientology.
Amazon bosses pulled The Complex from their website amid fears it contained controversial claims which could be defamatory to some of the religion's followers.
Author John Duignan has told the New York Daily News he believes Top Gun star Cruise's goodwill visit to the company's headquarters in Seattle, Washington last month (Nov08) might have prompted the ban.
But Cruise has vehemently denied he had anything to do with the decision - and Amazon bosses insist the book was pulled because it possibly contravenes Britain's strict libel laws.
In a statement, company bosses said: "U.K. law gives us no choice but to remove the title from our catalogue."
Cruise has been a follower of Scientology since the early 1990s and is one of its most famous and outspoken supporters.
