CRUISE CAMP FIRES BACK AT PARAMOUNT
LATEST: Members of TOM CRUISE's camp have hit back at Paramount Pictures and Viacom chairman SUMNER REDSTONE for ending its business relationship with the star, calling their actions "disgusting." On Wednesday (23AUG06), the studio announced it was severing ties with Cruise and producing partner PAULA WAGNER, citing Cruise's "unacceptable" offscreen behaviour as the reason behind their decision. Creative Artist's Agency president RICHARD LOVETT, the talent agency that represents Cruise, slams the studio telling the New York Times, "Paramount has no credibility right now. "It is not clear who is running the studio and who is making the decisions." Cruise's lawyer, BERT FIELDS, tells the newspaper Redstone's comments about the star were "disgusting" and suggested that Redstone, who is 83, has "lost it completely, or he's been given breathtakingly bad advice." Fields adds, "That a mogul like Sumner Redstone could make a statement so vicious, so pompous, so petulant as that he didn't want to make a deal with Tom Cruise because of his personal conduct - it tells you more about Sumner Redstone and Viacom than about Tom Cruise." Paramount chairman BRAD GREY and Viacom CEO THOMAS E FRESTON claimed to have been caught off guard by the news the studio was dumping the star. Wagner adds, "If you didn't know anything about this, how effective are you at running a studio?"

It is obvious that this whole action from Paramount is a question of an
exercising of Power.
To put it straight forward: Paramount's executive's are simply afraid that the
Cruise/Wagner Production Team is gaining power in comparison to themselves, in
regard of the money Cruise and his team has brought into Paramount with the
Mission Impossible movies, for example - that, according to media, is estimated
to be around 1 billion dollars.
The whole issue of Cruise's private declarations in media regarding his
relationship with Holmes and the benefits he has found of being a member of the
Scientology Church about dyxlexia and psychiatric medicine, is clear as water,
only a cover and a pretence from the Paramount executive's to find an excuse,
to be able to rid themselves of the successful partnership of Cruise's/Wagner's
Production Company.
What if the creative duo Production team of Cruise and Wagner would become more
powerful than the executive's dito, in the long run, for example?
What should the executive's at Paramount have done in that case? How could they
possibly find a pretext in time for to rid t hemselves of that presumed future
threat to their own exitence - before it became a reality?
To get rid of the Cruise/Wagner team, before this happens, and to blame it on
Tom Cruise's private affairs, was a low life and cheap shot and accordingly,
the only way for them to save their own skin, from this, as they see it,
presumed future threat, for to be able to keep thier own power structure intact.
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure this out. It is simply, and when it
comes down to it, a very old and classical issue we see here, the eternal quest
of power, envy and greed initiated and exercised in this case from the
executive's at Paramount, not only towards Cruise but also towards Wagner - and
in the greater perspective, towards the freedom of speech, the freedom of
religion and the question of family and also love.
