CROWE: 'ACTING IS A CALLING'

RUSSELL CROWE was tempted to ditch his acting career once he could command millions of dollars per movie - but soon realised he loved his job too much to retire. The Gladiator star insists working in Hollywood is a vocation, but concedes he wouldn't be happier doing anything else. He says, "Back then, I was asked, 'What would you do if you were earning $10 million a movie?' and I went, 'F**king retire'. (But) the reality is you're not in this business for the bucks anyway. "That's going to come across as archly pretentious, and some of you will assassinate me for saying it, but this gig is a calling. You put up with al the s**t that comes with this job. You gotta love it at its core - and I dig it, man."
