CROOK INTRODUCES BB NERD DAY

Mackenzie Crook has taken over the Big Brother house and announced he is implementing 'Nerd Day'.

The new hijacker, famed for playing Gareth Keenan in The Office, told the housemates that his experiences playing "the ultimate twisted nerd" on the BBC show had inspired his choice of task.

When racing driver Jeremy Metcalfe heard of the task, he exclaimed: "That's not fair, Amy [Jackson] can just be herself."

Young politician John Loughton, who has immunity from eviction on the E4 show after passing a task set by Matt Lucas on launch night, relayed the Pirates of the Caribbean star's instructions to the rest of the group.

"Anthony [Ogogo] and Calista [Robertson], you will be building military models and ships," he read. "John, Amy and Nathan [Fagan-Gale], you will be partaking in medieval fantasy role-playing, provided with costumes and a synopsis and must act out a story for show and tell.

"Jay [Wilson], Emilia [Arata] and Latoya [Satnarine] are bird watchers for the day and at my [Big Brother's] discretion, birds will fly into the garden. Jeremy I want you to build the biggest rubber band ball, with a ping-pong ball as a base to get you started."

Beginning the bird-watching task with Jay and Emilia, professional dancer Latoya reacted bizarrely to a bird flying over the garden fence, crying: "It looks like a penguin! I'll draw it. Oh my God, it's flying away."

As part of the medieval role-playing task, Amy and Nathan transformed into Lord Hindof and Sir Dropsalot, eager to gain passage through the city of Dark Lord Sir Gorier, played by John.

But nerd of the day was awarded to Jeremy, for the enthusiasm with which he built a giant rubber band ball, while clad in a Mr Spock outfit.

During the show-and-tell session, he expounded on the enjoyable aspect of rubber-balling, explaining: "I find it therapeutic... It almost becomes a pet."

He added: "It also acts as a clever rubber band storage device and as a bouncy ball. It can also be used at home as a bicep curl weight or in game of catch with friends."
