CRAVEN REMAKES FIRST FILM
Film-maker WES CRAVEN is remaking THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT - the 1972 film which launched his career. Craven was at teaching college when he received $90,000 (GBP50,000) to make the film from drive-in cinema owners in Boston, Massachusetts - who wanted cheap second films for double-feature bills. The film focuses on a pair of adventurous teen girls who are murdered by thugs, who then unwittingly hole up in the home of one of the victim's parents. When the parents realise what the pair have done, they plot a gruesome revenge on their unwanted guests. Craven says, "The story, about the painful side effects of revenge, is an evergreen. "The headlines are full of people and nations taking revenge and getting caught up in endless cycles of violence." The new project marks the third remake of a Craven film the director is producing - also in the works are SHOCKER and PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. Craven adds, "I'm far enough removed from these films that the remakes are a little like having grandchildren."
