COWELL'S IDOL PACT MAY CONTAIN X FACTOR

In order to retain Simon Cowell as a judge on American Idol , producers of the show are offering him a deal that would allow him to launch his hit British show The X Factor on Fox next year, the Hollywood Reporter reported on its website Thursday, citing no sources. Cowell is in the final year of his Idol contract and had publicly suggested that he would leave the show in order to bring X Factor to the U.S., something he is barred from doing under his existing contract. X Factor is also a talent contest, with singers divided into four categories girls 16-24; boys 16-24; older contestants; and groups. Cowell not only produces the show but sits on a panel of four judges. The Reporter indicated that former Idol judge Paula Abdul is being considered as a possible judge on the American version of X Factor .
