COURIC WILL BE GIVEN AT LEAST A YEAR TO BRING UP RATINGS
CBS News President Sean McManus has indicated that he's giving Katie Couric at least a year to prove herself. "People who want to judge this as a success or failure after eight or nine weeks, I think are missing the big picture," McManus told today's (Monday) New York Post. "Our commitment to Katie is long-term. I have said this from Day 1: I am much more concerned about the ratings in November of 2007, 2008, 2009 than I am in 2006," he said. McManus also told the newspaper that the network plans to promote Couric's newscast during its telecast of the Super Bowl on February 4, possibly having her do a pre-game human-interest feature.
