COPPOLA ALMOST QUIT AFTER 9/11
Movie mogul FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA almost quit Hollywood after the 9/11 terrorist attacks wrecked his plans to make MEGALOPOLIS in New York City. The Godfather director had spent more than a year planning the ambitious project, when hi-jacked planes struck the World Trade Center's Twin Towers - and Coppola found the film impossible to finish. He recalls, "To make a movie in which the central metaphor was New York City as a kind of a vision of Utopia, and then suddenly find that the world was going to be back in the same wasteful conflict... "I tried to write my way out of it, but I never could. "I really was brought to my knees. I was pretty creatively frustrated. It was hard time. I was feeling like, 'Where is my place?'"
