COMEDIAN RON CAREY DIES
American actor RON CAREY died on Tuesday (16JAN07) of complications from a stroke at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 71.
Carey is best known for his roles on the sitcom BARNEY MILLER and in MEL BROOKS films.
Carey began his career as a stand-up comic on talk shows, including those hosted by MERV GRIFFIN, MIKE DOUGLAS, ED SULLIVAN and JOHNNY CARSON.
His most famous role was as detective-wannabe Officer CARL LEVITT on Barney Miller, which ran from 1975 to 1982 on US network ABC.
Carey's feature credits include Brooks' HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART I, HIGH ANXIETY and SILENT MOVIE.
He also appeared in JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY, FATSO, and the 1970 comedy THE OUT OF TOWNERS.
