COLDPLAY ACCUSED OF PLAGIARISM
Guitarist JOE SATRIANI has accused British band COLDPLAY of using one of his riffs on their single VIVA LA VIDA.
He filed court papers against the Grammy-nominated rockers yesterday (December 4th) stating that their hit used "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly.
The musician wants a jury trial and is seeking damages and profits for the alleged plagiarism.
VIVA LA VIDA is nominated in the song of the year category at the Grammys.
The track is inspired by a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
Earlier this month, COLDPLAY released a single with pop princess KYLIE MINOGUE, with proceeds going to a HIV/AIDS charity.
The track, LHUNA, is available via Red Wire, a new charity digital downloads service.
