CNN REPORTER SAYS JUNTA TARNISHES THAILAND'S REPUTATION
Although the decision of Thailand's military junta to block CNN's interview with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra made headlines in some Thai newspapers Wednesday, no television station in the country so much as mentioned it, CNN reported today (Thursday). The cable news network could be facing sterner measures as its reporter in the region, Dan Rivers -- who conducted the interview with Thaksin in Singapore -- commented on CNN's website today (Thursday): "Together with the clamp-down on the news media and continuing martial law, the reputation of Thailand has become tarnished in the eyes of some in the international community. ... Many are left wondering ... whether Thailand and its 62 million inhabitants are descending toward autocracy and economic decline."
