CLOVERFIELD STOMPS TO THE TOP OF U.K. BOX OFFICE CHART
Horror movie CLOVERFIELD has become a monster hit in the U.K. - it's debuted at number one on the box office chart. The J.J. Abrams-produced film - about five New Yorkers attempting to escape from a giant lizard - clawed its way to the top spot with takings of $7 million (GBP3.5 million) in its opening weekend (01-03Feb08), knocking murder musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street into second place with $3.42 million (GBP1.71 million). Eva Longoria Parker's comedy Over Her Dead Body is in third place, while Christina Ricci's romantic fairytale Penelope and The Coen brothers' No Country For Old Men round out the top five in fourth and fifth position respectively.
