CLOSE ACCEPTS HOLLYWOOD STAR WITH HUMOUR
GLENN CLOSE humbly accepted her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - jokingly telling fans they could take revenge against her nasty on-screen characters by stomping on her name.
The actress, best known for her deranged stalker character Alex Forrest in 1987 hit Fatal Attraction, was honoured with the 2,378th star on the famous Hollywood sidewalk on Monday (12Jan09).
A string of celebrity pals turned out to pay tribute to the Damages star at the ceremony in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, including Michael Chiklis, Jobeth Williams, Mary Kay Place and Tate Donovan.
And the modest star was delighted to be part of Hollywood history, insisting it is an honour that movie fans will be able to observe her plaque - even if they mistake her for a man.
She told the assembled press, "To be considered a star is one thing, but to be embedded in the sidewalk with life passing over us, that for me is the best part of this honour.
"And I can just see it years from this moment. Someone will wander by my star, dust off my name and think 'Glenn Close? Glenn Close? Oh yeah, I remember. He was good'."
But the actress is anticipating her star will attract some negative attention, and urged filmgoers to take out their grudges against some of her on-screen personas on the footpath.
She added, "Five-inch heels, flip-flops, Birkenstocks, dropped ice cream cones, the odd tobacco squirt, baby carriages, roller blades, skateboards, wheelchairs - bring it all on.
"And if there are those who are really pissed off by... Alex Forrest, they can stomp on me to their heart's content."
