CLOONEY WAITRESS TO PLAY AT GLASTO
A singing waitress from Richmond plucked from obscurity by George Clooney for a gig onboard a Cannes yacht has landed a slot at Glastonbury festival.
Victoria Hart was booked for the exclusive gig after a friend recommended her for the show. She then performed for free at the star-studded bash in the south of France in aid of the Sudanese region of Darfur.
Since then not only has the 18-year-old been at the centre of a record company bidding war, she has also been given a slot on the John Peel stage at this year's Glastonbury.
Ms Hart, who describes herself as a "female Frank Sinatra", was working as a singing waitress at the Naked Turtle restaurant in south-west London.
She now looks set to be an up-and-coming star, with her big band style vocals hitting the spot with many people.
The tale, which is straight out of a Human League track, is reminiscent of other stars who became huge after a lucky break.
Jarvis Cocker famously thrust a tape of Pulp demos into the hand of John Peel when he was leaving his Radio One studio. Peel then listened to the tape and offered Cocker's band a number of live sessions which eventually led to them being signed.
