CLOONEY SPEAKS OUT ABOUT LAKE COMO PETITION

LATEST: GEORGE CLOONEY has spoken out about his decision to sign a petition protesting against the building of car parks and a promenade near his home in Lake Como, Italy. The Syriana star is one of 300 people who have signed the petition to protest the planned construction in the town of Laglio. Clooney says Laglio's mayor agreed on Thursday (21Jun07) to ditch some of the planned building work. He tells Associated Press, "Yes I signed it. Almost every member of the town signed it. "My concern is that this village that has stood for hundreds of years would be destroyed simply because I happened to have lived there for the last six years. "I told my neighbours that I would do what they wanted. And it seemed that they didn't want to demolish the harbour where all the local fishermen keep their boats."
