CLOONEY IN EGYPT ASKING LEADERS TO STOP THE GENOCIDE IN DARFUR

GEORGE CLOONEY is getting serious about his efforts to end the genocide in Darfur - he's speaking to leaders in China and Egypt and urging them to use their ties with the Sudanese government to help stop the violence. The actor and OCEAN'S ELEVEN co-star DON CHEADLE are currently in Egyptian capital Cairo, campaigning to raise awareness about the killings in Darfur. The actor and his father trekked to the troublespot earlier this year (06) to shoot an awareness video and interview terrified refugees, and he has since become a fervent activist for the Save Darfur campaign. Clooney's publicist, STAN ROSENFIELD, reveals the actor and his friends chose to visit Egypt because politicians there have been key mediators with neighbouring Sudan, where an estimated 200,000 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million have been driven from their homes in more than three years of warfare. The movie star hinted at his most recent efforts to stop the war in the Sudan in a recent interview, where he said, "You can't go in barrelling with bombs or guns because we can't attack the government of Sudan. "What it really requires is some sort of political discussion with these people, and, since we don't do business with them, we need help from China, Egypt, Russia."
