CLOONEY HONOURED AS U.N. MESSENGER OF PEACE
GEORGE CLOONEY has been named a United Nations Messenger Of Peace in honour of his humanitarian work. The actor, who is a longterm campaigner on behalf of refugees in the Darfur region of Sudan, joins fellow celebrities Michael Douglas and musician Yo-Yo Ma in accepting the honour. U.N. spokesman Michele Montas says, "(Clooney is being) recognised for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues." Last month (Dec07), Clooney and his Ocean's Eleven co-star Don Cheadle were awarded the Peace Summit Award at the World Summit Of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome, Italy for raising awareness about the genocide in Darfur.
