CHRIS MARTIN UNVEILS NAME OF COLDPLAY'S FOURTH ALBUM
Coldplay's fourth album is to be called Viva la Vida (Long Live Life), lead singer Chris Martin has revealed.
The musician told Rolling Stone magazine that the phrase stuck in his mind after he saw it on a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who suffered numerous health problems.
"She went through a lot of s***, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida'," he said.
"I just loved the boldness of it."
But Martin is prepared for people to think the title was inspired by Ricky Martin's hit Livin' La Vie Da Loca and is used to mocking over names after he called his children Apple and Moses and Coldplay's third album X&Y.
"I've been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying that 'That's a terrible name'," Martin told the magazine.
"But then saying, 'Well, f*** you, that's what it's called, and I'll be proved to be right eventually'. So when Viva la Vida came along, I was kind of annoyed because I'm going to have to try and convince everybody of this, but it just felt right."
Viva la Vida is due to be released on June 17th.
