CHINESE MAG LOSES APPEAL OVER NAKED POP SHOTS

LATEST: A Hong Kong magazine that printed secretly shot semi-naked photos of a local pop star has lost its appeal against an obscenity ruling. GILLIAN CHUNG, one half of popular female duo TWINS, was snapped changing costumes backstage after a concert in Malaysia. The racy shot subsequently appeared on the cover of gossip magazine Easy Finder in August (06). Its publication outraged the Chinese showbiz world with stars including JACKIE CHAN staging a silent protest against the photos. The Obscene Articles Tribunal subsequently branded the article obscene and, on Wednesday (01NOV06), upheld the decision at an appeal hearing. They said the photos were a "calculated act of selling sexuality which is corrupting and revolting". Chung has already vowed to sue the magazine.
