CHICAGO REVIVAL CELEBRATES 10TH BIRTHDAY
Epic musical CHICAGO became the longest-running revival in Broadway history yesterday (15NOV06) when the show celebrated its 10th anniversary. The milestone was marked with a star-studded New York gala at the Ambassador Theatre drawing together stars from its long stage history. Among the ROXIE HART actresses were ANN REINKING, who opened the revival in 1996, BROOKE SHIELDS, ASHLEE SIMPSON and RITA WILSON. Producer BARRY WEISSLER said, "This is a cast made in theatrical heaven." His wife and co-producer FRAN WEISSLER added, "Except for giving birth, it's is the most exciting night of my life." Among the event's highlights was CHITA RIVERA's rendition of Chicago's showstopping number ALL THAT JAZZ. Rivera first sang the signature song in the original 1975 production of the show.
