CHARLIE CHAPLIN 'HATED' CHRISTMAS

Late Hollywood legend CHARLIE CHAPLIN hated Christmas so much, he resented his own family for celebrating the season of goodwill. The silent star's son Michael reveals Chaplin refused to mark the festive season, branding Christmas "too commercialised." He says, "It really depressed him. My mother would always put a big tree in the house and we'd surround it with beautifully wrapped gifts, while my father would grow morose and complain about the commercialisation of Christmas. "It reminded him of his hard childhood when he'd have no presents and no tree. He'd complain: 'If I got an orange as a child at Christmas I would be lucky.'" Ironically, Chaplin died on Christmas Day in 1977.
