CHAPLIN'S POSSESSIONS UNDER THE HAMMER
Silent movie legend CHARLIE CHAPLIN's possessions have gone under the hammer at an auction in Switzerland.
Around 60 objects belonging to the late star were up for grabs, all of which had been found in Chaplin's Swiss home in Lake Geneva, where he lived until his death in 1977.
His possessions sold for a total of $83,000 (GBP42,564), and lots featured furniture, books and other household items, including a French Restoration chandelier, a mahogany writing desk and a watch given to the actor by his son EUGENE.
The watch fetched over 10 times its expected value and sold for $9,800 (GBP5,028) at the sale on Wednesday (13DEC06).
