CENTENARY OF WAYNE'S BIRTH CELEBRATED

The 100th anniversary of the birth of JOHN WAYNE is to be celebrated with a series of events in the US. On Saturday (21Apr07), the Newport Beach Film Festival in California is paying tribute to Wayne's work with a series of movie screenings, called John Wayne + The American Western. Next month (May07), officials in his birth town of Winterset, Iowa, will treat visitors to guided tours of his childhood home, and will hold a Wild West revue, featuring a stagecoach robbery, and concerts of music from Wayne's movies. Legendary actor Wayne was born Marion Morrison on 26 May 1907.
