CELEBRITIES ASKED TO PICK SHORTLIST PRIZE FINALISTS

SNOW PATROL's GARY LIGHTBODY, KT TUNSTALL and the FLAMING LIPS frontman WAYNE COYNE have been invited to select the 10 albums which will compete for the 2007 Shortlist Music Prize. The celebrity panel must select from 61 nominated albums which have yet to sell more than 500,000 copies in the US. Shortlist organisers already have a handful of favourites, singling out HOT CHIP's THE WARNING, the STROKES' FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EARTH and THE CRANE WIFE by THE DECEMBERISTS for special mention ahead of the list of finalists. The Shortlist Prize, which is the US equivalent of Britain's Mercury Music Prize, launched in 2001 and has been won by SIGUR ROS, N*E*R*D, DAMIEN RICE and TV ON THE RADIO. There was no award ceremony in 2006.
