CBS'S COURIC GETS EVEN WITH NYTIMES' STANLEY

Katie Couric, who once found herself the object of ridicule by New York Times TV critic Alessandra Stanley, has struck back over Stanley error-filled column about the death of Walter Cronkite. Without mentioning Stanley by name, Couric, in her "Reporter's Notebook" commentary, noted that Stanley's column for the Times contained, "not one, not two, but seven errors about [Cronkite's] life and career" (all of them listed in a subsequent correction piece, Couric noted, "that seemed as long as the article itself."). Couric concluded "Walter Cronkite used to say 'Get it first, but get it right.' So as we say goodbye to the dean of TV news, let's all remember as journalists when we say "That's the way it is" -- it really is."
