CBS TO OFFER MORE SHOWS ON DEMAND -- FREE
CBS has apparently come to the conclusion that viewers will not pay even 99 cents to see its programs on demand -- especially not when they can record them with digital recorders for free. The network has therefore entered into an agreement with Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, to provide the programs free with just three breaks for commercials. Only programs produced by the network itself will be included in the deal. They include the various incarnations of CSI, Survivor, NCIS, Numb3rs, Jericho and Big Brother. Each new episode will be available for viewing on Comcast's Video on Demand service for four weeks, beginning on the day after they air. Forrester Research analyst Josh Bernoff told today's (Friday) Los Angeles Times that viewers simply didn't want to pay for the VOD service. "It's much easier to get money out of advertisers than out of consumers," he said.
