CBS NEWS INVESTIGATING CBS NEWSMAN
CBS News's chief investigative correspondent, Armen Keteyian, and his staff are working on a story about the alleged attempt by a CBS News producer, Joe Halderman, to blackmail David Letterman, the New York Observer reported on Wednesday. In disclosing the investigative feature, Observer writer Felix Gillette observed, "Reporting on bleeding news stories within your place of employment is never an uncomplicated task, and if they gave out Emmys for most awkward news assignments, Mr. Keteyian's current work would certainly be a strong contender for consideration in 2009." Especially if the story should treat Halderman favorably. However, the New York Post reported today that Halderman's colleagues are "furious" about the Keteyian investigation. "How is this good?" a source at 48 Hours , the program that featured Halderman's work, asked. But another source at CBS Evening News commented, "CBS cannot be seen to be burying its head in the sand" regarding the scandal.
