CATWOMAN CONTRACTS NERVE DISEASE
BATMAN legend JULIE NEWMAR is suffering from an incurable nerve disease that has left her struggling to walk.
The actress - who played Catwoman in the 1960s TV series - was diagnosed six months ago with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which affects muscles in the legs, feet, and hands, reports the New York Daily News.
And although her long legs were once insured for $1 million (GBP500,000), she is now forced to grasp on to people to avoid falling down as the illness impairs her ability to walk
Newmar, 74, says, "Today, I walk - but very s-l-o-w-l-y. My balance is also affected. People might think I've had too much to drink, but I never drank, smoked or took drugs my entire life.
"If I'm out in public, I grab on to some charming, darling fellow who can steady me. I've been encouraged by the many men who have offered me their shoulders."

I am 29yrs old, and wa also diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. I can relate
all too well with Julia's comments on her s-l-o-w walk, and unsteady balance. I
was diagnosed at age 6 or so, i've had over 18 operations in my life time, and currentl
y wear leg braces, and need help from others walking ..esp. in public, or long walks.
My heart goes out to you Julia...Stay strong, and maybe one day we will meet, and
fight to find a cure for Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.

So sorry to hear this, but Ms. Newman can learn alot about Charcot Marie Tooth from
the CMTUS organization where positive ideas for symptom management are (www.cmtushope.info)
and perhaps she would be a spokesperson for the millions who suffer as well.
