CAREY, BABYFACE AND KANYE WIN URBAN AWARDS

MARIAH CAREY, KANYE WEST, KENNETH 'BABYFACE' EDMONDS and ANTONIO 'LA' REID were the big winners at BMI's annual Urban Awards in New York City on Wednesday (30AUG06). Carey picked up two trophies at the Roseland Ballroom ceremony, including Song Of The Year for WE BELONG TOGETHER and Songwriter Of The Year, which she shared with Florida producers BIGG D and JIM JONSIN. Music mavericks and LaFace Records co-founders Edmonds and Reid were honoured with the prestigious BMI Icon titles, for their "enduring influence on generations of music-makers". GOLD DIGGER hitmaker West was named Producer Of The Year for the second year running. Other winners on the night included JAZZE PHA, LIL' JON, THE GAME and SEAN GARRETT.
