CARELL CO-STAR TO STAND TRIAL

An actor who appeared in STEVE CARELL's hit movie THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly trying to stab his ex-girlfriend to death. Shelley Malil, who played Haziz in the comedy, is accused of knifing Kendra Beebe 23 times in her backyard in San Diego County, California.
He has pleaded not guilty to premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and residential burglary following the incident on 10 August (08).
A Superior Court judge ruled on Wednesday (04Feb09) there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
Malil could face life in prison if convicted of all charges.
