CAMDEN CRAWL BEGINS WITH A FEW SURPRISES

The Camden Crawl got underway yesterday, throwing in the odd surprise as well as some fantastic sets.

Babyshambles opened the multi-venue festival with a chaotic five-song show after arriving late on stage by about 45 minutes.

The band played hits Killamangiro, Albion and F**k Forever before frontman Pete Doherty reportedly threw a speaker and part of a drum kit into the crowd.

Cooper Temple Clause, due to play a set at the Camden event, cancelled their performance and were replaced by DJs.

A representative for the band said that they were "mentally and physically exhausted" after getting back from Japan.

A band who did turn up and played a raucous set were Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who return next month with their new album Baby 81.

The group played new material previously debuted at their Astoria headline show and the band will play again as part of today's Camden Crawl line-up.

Amy Winehouse was also reportedly on fine form last night as she played a set at Dublin Castle.

According to the NME, Winehouse said from the stage: "I'm really chuffed to be here - I come from Camden.

"When they came and said to me 'you're playing the Camden Crawl', they asked me where I wanted to play and I said the Dublin Castle, of course."

Bands due to play at today's event include Cajun Dance Party, Air Traffic, Alterkicks, Hot Club de Paris and Tiny Dancers.
