CAINE: 'WE LIVE AMONG SCUMBAGS'

Veteran British actor SIR MICHAEL CAINE has blasted today's Britain - because pensioners who fought in the World Wars now have to live "among scumbags".
The Get Carter star grew up on a council estate in the 1950s, but he was left shocked at how scary the streets have become since filming his latest movie, Harry Brown.
The project was shot in some of London's most troubled neighbourhoods, where Caine was left reeling at the lack of respect people in the country now have for each other compared to the safe haven he experienced as a youngster.
He says, "I came from some of the toughest streets in Britain but we still had respect for ourselves and others. But now? We have a situation where pensioners are too scared to leave their homes. We are living among scumbags.
"This is not the society that brave men and women who fought in the Second World War thought they were helping to create. The very people who fought are those who are among the weakest and most frightened on these hell-hole estates."
