CAINE URGES BRITAIN TO BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE

Veteran actor SIR MICHAEL CAINE is urging British politicians to bring back national service - to give a new generation of disaffected youngsters a sense of purpose.
Caine was drafted into the army when he was just 18, and served two years in the Korean War.
And after mixing with underprivileged teenagers while shooting his new movie Harry Brown, Caine is convinced youngsters in the U.K. would benefit from a stint in the armed forces.
He says, "I'm just saying put them in the army for six months. You're there to learn how to defend your country. You belong to the country. Then when you come out, you have a sense of belonging rather than a sense of violence. There should be a great plan to re-educate these youngsters. It's such a waste. They all feel society has let them down."
